MBC TV Wed-Thu drama ‘7th Grade Civil Servant’ has recently released new photos of their two lead cast members, Choi Kang Hee and Joo Won rehearsing their lines at the film set.

In the photos, both Choi Kang Hee and Joo Won are seen sitting on the bed together as they rehearsed their lines. The photo where Joo Won is seen rehearsing his lines in the wardrobe was particularly amusing.
Such incidences of Choi Kang Hee and Joo Won in close proximity are frequent occurrences at the film set, and thus have led to some jealousy among some production staff members. But such incidences can only help to bring Joo Won and Choi Kang Hee closer together, and aid them in filming their scenes for the drama. And because of them, the mood at the film set is always very cordial, just like best friends working together at the film set.

Meanwhile, with the return of Gil Ro (Joo Won) to the national intelligence agency, a new twist in the story is set to take place in ‘7th Grade Civil Servant’ which airs every Wednesday and Thursday through MBC TV from 9:55PM (KST) onwards.

The stylish match between Joo Won and Choi Kang-hee was revealed in a surprising revelation.
The couple, true to their status as the in-house couple in the NIS operation team, had boasted flavorful fashion sense in their couple looks. Even without the same styles, they had succeeded in completing the refined look of the elite NIS agents, with matching point colors or fabric.
With such a fashionable match between the leads, it has often been speculated that their costumes were discussed in advance by the directors, or a product of sponsorship.
The fashion stylist of Choi Kang-hee, Yoon Ha-na, has put an end to the speculations with her revelation: “the costumes of Seo-won (Choi Kang-hee) and Gil-ro (Joo Won) were all prepared by the actors themselves. Q: What are your thoughts, acting in 7 Level Civil Servant?

A: It’s my first time trying out a role like this. As an actor, this is a good opportunity to manifest yourself in various ways. In addition, to be able to work with an excellent production team and actors, I am looking forward to it.

Q: What do you think of Han Gilro?

A: He is someone who has so many sides to him and is a very charismatic person. Although, in daily life he seems simple and innocent like a child, but when it comes to love and pursuing his dreams, he is a real man.

Q: In what ways is this character like you and what are the differences?

A: Gilro believes firmly in his dream. He also hopes for innocent pure and sincere love. These are very similar to mine. The difference is that it seems like Gilro should experience more.

Q: In your previous works, you have proven to be a bona fide actor who possesses strong acting skills. In this drama, acting Han Gilro, do you have any areas which you would like to display?

A: This is my first time acting a character like Han Gilro, so lively, so crafty. I hope that this time, the viewers can feel : “So, even such a character like this, the actor Joo Won can play it so well”. So now I am focusing on how to bring out the charisma of Han Gilro.

Q: Up till the 4^th episode, there has been a lot of action, car racing, shooting and waltz scenes etc. In order to play a character whose unique occupation is a NIS agent, did you have to make special preparations?

A: In order to portray a NIS special agent realistically, I have to specially learn to do the action, shooting, waltz and other scenes. But it’s not just Han Gilro the Special Agent, I also put in a lot of effort in Han Gilro the person

Q: Gil and Seo Won are NIS’s Special Agents. Although they love each other but as special agents, they have to guard themselves and there must be instances where they cannot truthfully express themselves. Do you think such love exists?

A: I feel that between 2 persons in love, the most important thing is trust. Honestly speaking, in real life, such a situation would have its difficulties. It is not that Gilro and Seo Won’s love is not real, it is the situation that does not allow the 2 of them to be frank with each other.

Q: How do you feel working with Choi Kang Hee?

A: Very good! Although I always felt this way, every production that I have acted in, I always have a good relationship with people I work with. I learnt many things from Kang Hee noona and Noona’s acting skills are excellent, so the filming is enjoyable. In any case, actress Chi Kang Hee is an excellent actress.

Q: You have filmed 4 episodes so far, I heard that the filming in XX had close to 3 weeks of actual intense training. Is there any interesting anecdotes?

A: During the 3 weeks, we filmed approximately 100 scenes, so it was quite grueling. But to be able to film and live with so many actors and the production team, I accumulated many feelings. It is a very special experience.

Q: What are the highlights of 7 Level Civil Servant?

A: Lively, cute romance and the touching story of the making of a special agent.

Q: What would you like to say to the viewers who are anticipating 7 Level Civil Servant?

A: The production team and the actors/actresses are battling the harsh winter with their passion and working very hard, they are in midst of filming happily. CHOI KANG HEE INTERVIEW

Q: What is the appeal of JW?

CKH: JW is “fresh” (she means that JW gives a refreshing feeling). He is very cute like a big child. He is very pure and innocent. Among Korea’s entertainment world—men or women, the old and the young (she laughed) , younger friends, including those who are contemporary to JW, it is rare to find such an innocent gaze, acting and soul as simultaneously embodied in JW.

Q: Did you feel burdened when asked about the age difference?

A: I was originally the type who did not care about age. When I took upon this project, I didn’t consider this issue at all. It was the media, fans, and the audience who often had the reaction like, “Wow.  Although there is an obvious age difference, the chemistry is really superb!” “How come does she look so young?” “Is she trying to act cute?”

Upon hearing these words, I became aware of the fact that I am indeed old. Right? This realization has made acting difficult. Although I did everything the same as before, I would think about whether I am trying to act cute. Or, does this look old? Am I acting like a sister? Something like this.

Q: Which one is your real ideal type? GR or Dh?

A: I like the one who is reliable. When the drama first broadcasted, the media all raved about JW’s cuteness and beauty. But then (the audience—the subject is often omitted in the Korean language) will point to DH played by Chansung and teach their daughters that  “you have to get together that kind of man….very dependable, very protective and will trust me unconditionally. Even though he will push others away, he will take care of his own woman. And I gradually realize through work that this type of guy is very attractive and cool.

(Note: This part, GJ’s answer is very vague.  Honestly, I think that she is trying to do fan service so as not to offend either party. Pay attention to the fact that she was talking through the mouth of the audience who might have a daughter. ). But basically she is saying that her ideal type is a guy who will protect and trust her, and make her feel that she can depend on him.  HEHE. And we all know that who protects her in every situation in the drama. )

Q: Are you called the queen of romantic comedy?

A: This is not the first time (laugh). [I couldn't make out the first part]. Probably the way my eyes and my face look? Very obvious philtrum (laugh—the part between nose and lips) , small mouth and rounded eyes. Actually I didn’t realize this until others told me that this is the look for romantic comedy. If I keep my eyes wide open, my eyes look even more rounded. If I get angry, it will have a different look as well. Maybe this appear like the looks from comic books (manhua/manga) ? This is the appearance my parents give me.

Q: In the future, what kind of acting do you want to try?

A: You know, aren’t there some songs that will make listeners lose themselves and become delirious? I want to act in works like that type of songs. That kind of works is not the mainstream or popular type since they require acting that appears delirious or sounds unrealistic and unfathomable.

[Note: GJ often uses metaphor in her writing and speaking. So I hope that my translation makes sense. She said that she wanted to act as a psychopath in one of the post-drama interviews after Protect the Boss. ].

Joo Won Chooses Choi Kang Hee of ′7th Grade Civil Servant′ as His Best Partner

Joo Won called his 7th Grade Civil Servant partner Choi Kang Hee as the best co-star and partner ever.

In the MBC drama, Joo Won and Choi Kang Hee had appeared as a secret agent couple, and despite their age gap, managed to mix with great chemistry.
On April 9, at the Morning Calm Village in Gangwon-do, Joo Won met with press and even said, "I learned a lot through my recent piece, but the biggest thing I gained was freedom. [Choi] Kang Hee nuna (big sister)."

He explained that he gained the ′freedom′ to express his ideas and thoughts without caring too much for what others will think.

"Kang Hee nuna shows a kind of pure creativity," he said. "For example, whenever we act together in a love scene it turns out to be really pretty, and those scenes express her creativity. I learned while I was with her that I can act in a different way."

This is the main reason why he chooses Choi Kang Hee as his best partner without hesitation.

He said, "Of course I got along well with Eugene nuna, Ms. Uee and Ms. Jin Se Yeon, but I don′t think we were as close as I was with Kang Hee nuna. I didn′t have much time to feel anything in [Baker King,] Kim Tak Goo because I was a rookie, while in Ojakgyo [Brothers] Uee and I were both still rookies, so we were determined to do our best. I didn′t get to meet often with [Jin] Se Yeon in Bridal Mask."

7th Grade Civil Servant, however, was different from the lot.

"I had to see Kang Hee nuna a lot because we had a lot of scenes together according to the script. We would exchange lines before the main shoot, and that helped me memorize them too. Later we boasted such great teamwork that even the staff noticed this, and I was proud of that."

Joo Won will next be appearing in a film, one titled Only You with Kim Ah Joong.

The actor said, "It is true that a lot of thoughts race through my head whenever I enter a new piece. Still, I know I′ll have a lot to expect the more I look forward to it, and I′ll work hard to show a better side of me."

The Combined Power of “Queen” Choi Kang Hee, “Never Fails” Joo Won …7LCS Advertisement Slots Sold Out. 

“Rom-Com Queen” Choi Kang Hee and “Fairytale Ratings” Joo Won as a couple sparked off the advertisement effect. Two of them are acting in MBC’s Wed & Thurs drama “7 Level Civil Servant”, in the first episode, they set the record of selling out all the advertisement slots.

A representative from the drama expressed: Advertisement slots on “7 Level Civil Servant” first episode have been sold out , for the 2^nd episode, it’s basically all sold as well. The advertisement market has not been good, moreover this is a lull season. Hence, after taking the 1^st slot in viewership, whether it can follow up on this victory remains to be seen.”

According to the Korea Broadcast Advertising XXX, MBC drama series advertisements are each worth 13,485,000 KRW. A 70 minutes drama can have 28 advertisements. The total revenue is worth 377.58 million KRW. Up to the 2^nd episode, they have collected close to 700 million KRW.

Ratings agency Nielsen results show that 7 Level Civil Servant in its first broadcast on the 23^rd Jan garnered a viewership of 12.7%(Korea) less than 1% away from the leader KBS2 “Jeon Woo Chi”(13.6%). In its 2^nd episode, it reached 14.5% beating “Jeon Woo Chi”(13.4%). In these 2 episodes, it fought back its competitors to take the number one position.

Choi Kang Hee through her dramas “Protect the Boss”, “My Sweet Seoul” and others became the “Rom-Com Queen”. Now, this is her first time acting together with famed “Fairytale Ratings” Joo Won. In the drama, Choi Kang Hee and Joo Won also have chemistry and work well together, creating a good atmosphere.

“7 Level Civil Servant” is a romantic story about the growth journey of NIS rookie agents. Its cast includes Choi Kang Hee, Joo Won, Ahn Nae Sang, Jang Young Nam, Kim Min Seo, Kim Soo Hyun, Hwang Chansung(2pm) and others.

   


  

 











Joo Won pledges to dance in his pyjamas if ratings hit 35%<7 Level Civil Servant> 

2nd February, on MBC's Feel Good Day, <7LCS> stars Joo Won and Choi Kang Hee were interviewed. When asked about the ratings, Choi Kang Hee passed the mic to Joo Won and Joo Won made this pledge

note: I thought in the earlier interview at press conference, they promised to do this pj dance if the ratings hit 25%. Joo Won ah, it's all recorded, you know. Maybe yours is the Chippendales style of pj dance, is it? 

In the same interview, Choi Kang Hee was surprised at viewers's sharp eyes.

In one scene where Seo Won was on her handphone, viewers noticed that she was holding the phone upside down. Choi Kang Hee said that she is totally oblivious and praised the viewers for their sharp eyes. 

It was also revealed that when Choi Kang Hee threw the plate of jjangmyun onto Joo Won's face, the plate cut his nose, resulting in a break from filming for 3 days. This scene was in the 2nd episode where Seo Won and Gilro were having their spate en route to NIS.

Lastly, this is another adorable picture!! Am I the only one who thinks that they look alike? Maybe JW has a sister he is not aware of.

JW: Now, friends and family members have seen the reaction towards the drama on SNS and it seems not too bad, haha.

CKH: Joo Won – in the beginning he was not really suited for the role. The director said that Gilro should be cunning like a fox and Seo Won is supposed to be like a bear. In reality, his real person is not like a fox but he acted very well.

(in order to be an NIS agent, Seo Won and Gilro must learn various skills like martial arts, dancing and even gambling but we heard that there was a big incident that happened, what exactly was it?)

CKH: When I threw the jjangmyun, the plate cut Joo Won’s nose, as a result the filming had to stop for about 3 days. Actually, I had wanted to avoid NG and do the scene in 1 take, however it turned out like this.

JW: She was so good at hitting people that she reached the competitive level

CKH: I already became an expert.

JW: It became almost like boxing

CKH: In the 4^th episode, in the scene where I had to dance while being drunk. On the table, there were real as well as fake liquor. We should actually be drinking the fake ones. But when the filming started, everyone got them mixed up and ended up downing real liquor in one shot.

JW: The best scene was the one where noona dance the “Shy Dance”. That song Bukkeu Bukkeu became a topic of discussion again.

CKH: I don’t even dare to watch the broadcast, so I asked the manager “Have you seen it? How was it?” The manager said it was embarrassing, so I didn’t watch. It was not like that of Lee Hyori’s 10 minutes but like Bukkeu Bukkeu with StarlightMoonlight(not sure what’s this). That choreography was really embarrassing.

PD: Because it became a topic of discussion, so we prepare….

JW: Hi, everyone. 7LCS viewers, I am Joo Won who plays Gilro. I am happy to meet you.

Q: Why did you choose 7LCS?

A: I chose it primarily because of the script. In addition, I always had been acting in heavy and serious roles so I wanted to act in a lighter role. And happened that a good script came along.

Q: What is the appeal of 7LCS?

A: It does not exaggerate issues and take things too seriously. Of course, it can be serious depending on the situation. There are also sad scenes. Although this drama does not have many twists and turns, it does have many enjoyable moments. It does not have side-splitting hilarity but you watch it, you cannot help but smile and giggle. So there are many scenes which viewers can enjoy. I feel that this is the strength of 7LCS.

Q: What is Gilro’s appeal?

A: Gilro is a character which has many charms. You’ll never know when he will make a blunder. He is also a character which you cannot analyze point by point. He is a chaebol kid who lived well. In other women’s eyes, he is rather suave. But with Seo Won, his behavior is especially goofy and childish. When he is serious, he is really sincere When he is cheerful, he is unreservedly so. He really seems to go from one extreme to another. Gilro is a character whereby I need to portray the various charms that he possessed. It is not easy and there are many lines to deliver. It is a character which I really need to get into when I film.

Q: Among the many different sides to Gilro, which is the one you are most confident of?

A: I don’t have much confidence in any of them, hahaha…I don’t know about being self-confident. Recently, I have fun filming with Kang Hee noona, it’s really interesting. When I am with noona, I don’t hold back and noona’s reactions are especially interesting. Rather than to wonder whether I have the confidence or not, I’d rather say that acting with noona makes me confident. It seems that those scenes which I act with noona, they are better.

Q: Does it feel realistic considering the 10 year age gap between the 2 of you?

A: It seems like I gradually forget the age gap between us. Occasionally, I would be worried about it. I’d think like this: “Ah…noona and I have this age gap.” I am also surprised. But slowly over time, I pushed these messy thoughts away.

Q: Is here anything that Joo Won, a powerful actor, is afraid of?

A: I have always been afraid of action scenes. Unlike a martial arts actor, I am unable to adjust the right amount of force to use. I am always very nervous when it comes doing action scenes. I am very afraid.

Q: Is there any scene which is particularly memorable?

A: Although there are many such scenes, it is those from the NIS training days which left a deep impression on me, like the gambling scene and the drinking scene. I do not know the professional gambling terms so I just took them literally. So it left me a deep impression.

Q: Have you ever dream of becoming an intelligence agent?

A: I have never thought of being one. Not only do I not know anything about the job, all that I know are gleamed from other dramas and movies.  More than being agent, I have thought more of being a policeman or doctor.

Q: If you are not an actor, what career path would you have chosen?

A: I would choose a job in production work in the entertainment industry. When I was attending performing arts in high school, I had always done production staff type of work. There was a period of time, I have thought of doing it as a career. Something along the line of the artistic performing arts.

Q: When you are busy, how do you take care of your physical condition?

A: Instead of constantly eating to keep my energy up, I’d use psychological strength to soldier on. And if I have to choose, I’d rather sleep than eat. It is 4am now but strangely, I am not hungry. I still feel that mental endurance is more important.
